One of the highest traffic areas in the home is the bathroom, yet it remains almost forgotten when it comes to home decor. Most people think of things like a new vanity and sink, new faucets and lighting, or a new toilet or tub/shower. These solutions can all get quite expensive and labor intensive. Here are three ideas that can help change the appearance of your bath and not cost you an arm and a leg.
• Storage seems to be one of the most common problems our customers have had in common when it comes to the bathroom. Whether you have a large spacious area, a small cramped one or something in between, clutter can make your bath feel crowded and uncomfortable. In one instance all it took was two woven baskets in a complimentary color to our customer's main color in her bath. We took all of the things that they normally use on a daily basis and put hers in one basket and his in another. The difference was dramatic. For one of our friends, where space was an issue we got a free standing, over the tank shelving unit and again used the woven basket idea. We suggested leaving out one item each (their favorite perfume and after shave) for display on their vanity. The result was a feeling of peace and serenity when you entered their bath.
Our kid's bathroom always looked like a whirlwind had gone through it. For the kids we used a free standing, rolling storage system with drawers. Instead of having each child's name on the front of their drawer, they each made a collage of their favorite interests which we placed on the front of each one's drawer. Now there's no more "He used my brush..." "Mom, where's my gel..." "I can't find my comb..." A better looking bathroom and MUCH quieter mornings!
• Once the bathroom is organized you can think of adding something like a second mirror. It can be framed or unframed. It should follow the decorative style of the vanity mirror. Placement is important and there are two main ways to get the most advantage out of a decorative mirror. One is to place it facing a window. This not only brings the outside in, but it will reflect the outside light and give your bath a more spacious look. Another placement idea is opposite the vanity mirror you already have. This will also add to the feeling of space in your bath.
