5 Ideas For Indoor Rainy Day Fun With Kids

Have you ever been stuck inside a house on a cold, rainy day with several small restless children? Is so, you know how crucial it is to everyone's sanity to have some fun indoor activities available. Here are some great ideas that were a hit with my young kids and their friends.
1. Treasure Hunt- This works best if at least one of the children can read. Make up a bunch of clues and hide them all over the house. It works well to arrange them so that the kids have to travel from one end of the house to the other quite a few times. This expends a lot of energy running and laughing and when the hunt is over they will be more inclined to have a bit of quiet time. It works well to have the treasure be something along the lines of a book that you will read to them or a funny movie that they can watch.
2. Teeny-Tiny Tea Party- I had three girls so this one worked well for us. You use a miniature tea set, yes the kind with postage stamp plates and cups. Make sandwiches and cut them into itty-bitty wedges. Take miniscule balls of cookie dough and bake them into fingertip sized treats. Cut fruit into tiny, tiny slices. You can even take a mini muffin and slice it into layers. Fill and frost and you have a miniature layer cake. Fill the little teapot with tea and serve. Remember to invite the dolls and stuffed animals.
3. Indoor Olympics- This requires space so a large room is best. Set up a course with things to jump over, things to crawl under, things to stack, things to push, things to transport etc. The more activity stations the better and kids love it.
4. Science Experiments- There are many fun yet simple experiments that will entertain as well as educate. Baking soda and vinegar volcanoes were always a favorite and the kids were always amazed by the whole boiled egg sucked into a bottle demonstration.
