Redecorating a home can be a simple or complicated as you make it. This article is not intended to be a full DIY pull the house apart and put it back together (I'm hardly qualified!) rather I'll throw some ideas around that you can do in a few minutes to make a start, or at least are not going to break the bank. Also they are good for people like me who live in rented houses, where you can't pull up the floorboards. Still there are plenty of cheap, cosmetic changes you can make to you living space that give the place a new feel.
1. Get everything out of the room. I mean EVERYTHING out, so you can see into the corners. Now give it a clean. Does it look better already? Probably so!
2. Can you paint it? If so then you will be surprised how much better it will look. Paint really isn't that expensive. If you cannot paint it for various reasons, cleaning and washing the walls can be almost as good. Grime, smoke, and mould spots all build up in a short time. I recently cleaned a spare room that had a lot of mould on the walls. I used bleach and water, and the walls ended up snowy white, like new.
3. Decide whether all your stuff actually needs to go back in. Try to cut it down by 20%, so you have some free floor space and free shelf or table space. Get rid of tatty old stuff like lamps and trinkets. They block the energy of a home tremendously.
4. What can you find to put on the walls that is new, or at least different? Buy a couple of cheap posters, or better take some worn old ones and have them framed by a picture shop. They will look like a million dollars against your clean new walls. Do you have a cool clock to put up?
