If there is one thing that the world has taught us in recent memory, it is that celebrity and the entertainment industry overly influence us. This is because so many people see what is happening in the world of television and try to extrapolate it onto our everyday lives. We feel the need to try and impersonate and emulate the people that are on the television in order to feel empowered and to want to become the people we see. It is a world in which we are trying to transfer all of the big shots and the people of the imaginary world into actual people and not into the people that they truly are. This is because we feel as if we dress and take on the personas of our favorite television characters we will be able to some degree have the same lives and power that they do.
Emulation:
Consider what many people would act like as children when they would see a character of some sort that they wanted to be. There were the Superman and Batman costumes that many boys would were in an effort to feel just as their favorite superhero would feel as they combated crime. There were the girls who would play house or as a superhero as well for that matter. Regardless it has been something that people have been doing since they were young children and continue to do today. It is not because we still believe we can be Superman, but it is because there is still a small part of us that wishes we could go and become the hero for a day and maybe it will happen if we dress the part.
Trendsetting:
As has been the case for many years, we tend to wear what we see the most popular figures and models wearing. This is the same as has been occurring with the Mad Men television show. Many people view these as men who have power and are able to exert their will on others and want to be those people that they see. So now they have begun to dress the part, this is particularly evident in the fact that so many people are now wearing what are known as skinny ties, much like the show. As is the case with almost all aspects of the world of television, people are more likely to go and try to become the popular character even if it is unintentional.
Looking Around:
As you can see just by observing stores and around you, the skinny ties have made a huge come back and for the most part, it is because of this show. So go out and get yourself a couple of these ties and wear them as you like, in time they will go the way of the matching metallic shirt and men's ties of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire of a few years back. All a matter of what you see and how you see it will lead to the next phenomenon of the entertainment world.
